Hong Kong should acknowledge and celebrate World Environmental Day on 5th of June (first initiated by United Nations in 1972) in its own special Green way – Hong Kong Green Day (HKGD). Initiated and organized by the Green Council since 2013, HKGD is an ideal occasion and opportunity to increase public awareness and interest regarding greater environmental responsibility and protection, as well as transforming Hong Kong into a greener city. This annual campaign inspires the community by wearing and displaying green in their clothing and/or accessories – including HKGD commemorative pins – as well as stimulate creative and original planning and implementation of initiatives and activities in support of the event theme. We are grateful to have Shih Wing Ching Foundation as our sponsor of the Green School Program for conducting activities on different environmental related topics and outreach programmes to school.

Program Objectives
The Green School Program aims to raise students’ awareness of environmental and related sustainable development issues through a series of activities, which include:

1.)  Captain Green Scheme: Green Council organized school-wide green talks for participating partner schools, and each school selected about 40 student representatives to participate a green visit. The student representatives were required to complete some assessment tasks and attend a sharing session cum ceremony, before receiving the Captain Green certificate.
